How do you help students “Start Here. Go Anywhere.”?
In an effort to help the students at HT live this motto, my program will emphasize the following:
  1. The importance for each child to do their individual best
  2. Focus on their achievement
  3. Celebrate in their successes
  4. Encourage them to always keep expanding their minds.
Learning a foreign language will lead students to a wide variety of educational and employment opportunities. Having the command of the English language is a great base on your journey to "anywhere," but learning a new language will get you to “anywhere” faster, and the journey will be more fulfilling.

What is the most important life lesson you want a child to learn in your classroom?
The world is no longer a place where one language meets the needs of all society. Knowledge of a foreign language is indispensable to a student in understanding, accepting and appreciating other people and cultures. I hope my students take from my classes the insatiable curiosity to discover the world and partake in the current shift towards a more integrated and connected global society.

How do you inspire a student who has a hard time with your subject area?
French is a complex language. The differences between French and English in phonology, syntax and semantics can engender confusion in a young student, particularly in his/her first year learning this foreign language. The key is to expose the student to various methods of teaching the same material. In my experience, broadening the teaching methods ensures that the student can comprehend and progress. Sometimes, it requires some one-on-one time where the student can feel welcomed to ask questions until he/she overcomes that stumbling block. Other times, it may require additional games, role playing and interactive play in order for the student to fully grasp the material. I always make sure my students know I am available for them to come and meet with me during their break time and lunch time.

How do you apply the latest technology in your class?
I teach using the latest technology to increase student participation and feed their natural curiosity. Specifically, I like to use PowerPoint and other interactive media to prepare my lessons. Additionally, I have created virtual tours of various francophone countries so the students may explore and discover new areas. Students can also access some of their homework and review various material online.

What are some of your interests and passions outside of the classroom?
I enjoy living a very active lifestyle! Fitness has always been a big part of my life. Besides working out, I enjoy long runs with my dogs, swimming, and after obtaining my second degree black belt in Taekwondo, I decided to pursue training in Krav Maga. I am also very active in volunteering for charitable organizations that are close to my heart.

How do you measure your success as an educator?
There is no sweeter success as an educator than to see your students advancing and proving to themselves that, with initiative, focus and dedication, you can accomplish so much! Progress, contribution and enthusiasm are just some of the factors I take in consideration to assess and evaluate the efficiency of my teaching methods.
